“This is no demure tinkling. Expect to be drawn to the very edge of your seat by the commitment, warmth, and fluency of his playing.” A powerful description by BBC’s Hinterland composer John Hardy to describe the 1st prize winner of the 2020 Camac Harp Competition at the North London Festival. Llywelyn Ifan Jones now looks forward to performing at the World Harp Congress in 2021. He was scheduled to perform at the Wigmore Hall in June 2020 as an H R Taylor Trust Scholar at the Royal College of Music.
Llywelyn was invited to perform the harp cadenza for Dorset Opera’s 2019 critically acclaimed production of Lucia de Lammermoor. This was also a prize-winning year for Llywelyn placing in three international competitions; Llangollen International Eisteddfod, the North International Music Competition, and the New Stars Competition. Llywelyn completed his postgraduate studies at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg where he was mentored by Stephen Fitzpatrick and was 1st prize winner of the Savarez-Corelli Kammermusik Competition. He continues his Harp studies with Stephen Fitzpatrick as well as Ieuan Jones and Jana Boušková on the Artist Diploma programme at the Royal College of Music.
Prior to his time in Salzburg, he studied the harp with Caryl Thomas at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where he was the recipient of numerous awards including the Mansel Thomas Award, the Royal Welsh Fusiliers Award, and on two occasions, the Daniel Emlyn Davies Award. He won the prestigious Lyon and Healy Award and the first prize recipient at both the Llangollen International Eisteddfod and the Pencerdd Gwalia Competition.
Llywelyn has performed Sir Karl Jenkins’ concerto In These Stones Horizons Sing alongside Gary Griffiths, conducted by the composer himself hosted by the Milford Haven Music Festival. Apart from recent work with the Royal Opera House, he performs regularly with British Sinfonietta, British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, and Southern Sinfonia. He has also performed a U.K. tour with the Russell Watson Orchestra. His accolades also include performing Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia in Salzburg during Mozart Week.

Thank you, Llywelyn. You were astounding as you played for us - stunning and mesmerising: and quietly, I sang with you. You made it sooooo special.

We were lucky enough to have Llywelyn perform at our wedding. We were extremely impressed by his professionalism and his talent. His beautiful playing really made our ceremony amazing and his performance during the drinks reception afterwards has been commented on by lots of our guests. We would highly recommend him to anybody considering a harpist for a special occasion. Many thanks again Llywelyn and all the best.

I have known Llywelyn for years and would not have wanted anyone else to play the harp in our wedding. We got married in a Chapel and Llywelyn played the harp on my arrival and whilst leaving the chapel. It was stunning and everyone commented on how beautiful it was. It made the ceremony even more special. You can chose the song of your choice and Llywelyn will play it. Diolch Llywelyn x
Composer: BBC's Hinterland, BBC's Hidden
Llywelyn commands the stage, the audience, and his instrument, embracing it with powerful arms and hands, and hurling the sound into the ether with power and confidence that is not often associated with the harp, or its typical repertoire.
This is no demure tinkling. Expect to be drawn to the very edge of your seat by the commitment, warmth, and fluency of his playing.
Though he is still so youthful, Llywelyn's unfaltering and courageous music-making will grab you by the ears, and will not let you go until the last note dies away.

Llywelyn provided pre-match entertainment in the hospitality function at a National Football Cup Final in Newport. He accepted the invitation at the last minute and assisted us greatly. He was very friendly, prompt with communications, and considered the audience to whom he entertained. He is an outstanding harpist and we would recommend him.

Llywelyn has performed for us several times and is a consummate professional. Can't fault him as a harpist or person come to that! One memorable event was at an event for the Welsh Rugby Team in the Senedd - the National Assembly for Wales building in Cardiff Bay, Wales. His music added such a special ambiance to the occasion. He is a brilliant musician and very easy to work with. I hope to work with him again and really would like to hear him play in concert. Until then, best wishes Maestro!
Teaching
Llywelyn currently offers harp lessons at the Latymer Saturday Music Centre, privately in Greater London and online via zoom conference calls.
Llywelyn has previously taught at Cardiff University, RWCMD Junior Conservatoire, William Mathias Centre, and Neath and Port Talbot Music Service.
Llywelyn is an excellent teacher. He is extremely patient, encouraging and believes in nurturing my daughter’s ability. He is also a professional teacher who possesses a good sense of humour. He injects his lessons with enthusiasm and a passion for music.
My daughter has learnt (and improved) so much in such a short period of time, in particular technique work and musical interpretation . She thoroughly enjoys her lessons with Llywelyn and would love him to teach her every day.
He is an extremely talented musician and we would not hesitate to recommend him as a teacher.
Highly recommend Llywelyn. He is an excellent teacher- and very encouraging and positive with a good sense of humour. He helps you to work on pieces you want to learn and enjoy, as well as the core strengths of technique work and musical interpretation. He has a kind manner and is great with kids but still retains the authority needed to push you forwards and motivate you to practice! He is also an amazing solo performer and has a high level of professionalism preparing for events. I would not hesitate to recommend him either as a solo performer or as a harp teacher for children or adult learners.
